Three Unexpected Things you Should Avoid While Pregnant
When someone becomes pregnant, they have to start thinking about the health and wellness of themselves and their growing baby. Most pregnant people do not have to change their everyday activities very much. There are many well-known things to avoid, such as eating raw or undercooked meat and changing cat litter. However, here are three unexpected things you also should avoid while you’re pregnant.
Three unexpected things you should avoid while pregnant
- Hot tubs, overexposure to extreme heat, and saunas. Heat is a great way to ease pregnancy discomfort, but experts suggest avoiding extreme temperatures, including hot tubs and saunas. They can cause abnormally high body temperature called hyperthermia, and this can lead to congenital abnormalities. You should also avoid hot yoga or hot pilates, sunbathing for too long, dehydration, and strenuous exercise.
- Amusement park rides. Pregnant people do not have to avoid all amusement park rides. Low impact rides, such as the ferris wheel, are usually okay, but roller coasters and rides that start and stop suddenly should be avoided. The sudden motion in these rides can cause the placenta to separate from the wall of the uterus.
- Raw sprouts. Finally, pregnant people should also avoid raw sprouts. Raw spots include alfalfa, clover, radish, and mung bean sprouts. Seeds require a humid environment to sprout, and this environment can easily be contaminated with salmonella. It’s best to avoid raw sprouts for this reason, but it is okay to consume sprouts that have been cooked.
Pregnancy is an exciting time, but it comes with some restrictions. Many people can go about their everyday life with minimal changes, but there are some adjustments that must be made during pregnancy.
